Professional Development

The foundation of a strong literacy community is a professional network of adult educators and program leaders who are prepared with the skills and knowledge to provide high-quality instruction to lead successful programs that are designed to meet the needs of learners and the community. Each year, MCAEL organizes a series of informational and networking meetings for program administrators as well as a series of training workshops for ESOL instructors. *See the calendar below. These meetings and workshops are offered at no cost to attendees.MCAEL also supports and encourages instructors and staff to connect to the broader professional community that exists in the Montgomery County and Washington D.C. area. MCAEL’s investment in staff and instructors yields exponential results.

PROVIDER MEETINGS

MCAEL offers 5-6 Provider Meetings for program administrators and staff each year. To ensure that these meetings are as useful and relevant to provider organizations’ needs as possible, MCAEL solicits topic recommendations from the Provider Advisory Group. Meetings focus on specific TESOL standards for program improvement, or on how to better support learners. Provider meetings also give program staff the opportunity to network and to learn from peers.

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

Guided by the recommendations and expertise of the Instructor Advisory Group along with the results of needs assessments conducted with instructors and providers, MCAEL organizes 8 – 10 workshops per year for instructors led by local and nationally recognized experts in TESOL.
