MCAEL Publishes Program Administrator Toolkit

Rockville, MD – September 20, 2019 - MCAEL is pleased to announce the publication of the Program Administrator Toolkit: A Guide to Implementing and Managing Community-Based Adult ESOL Classes and Programs. The toolkit is a user-friendly reference manual that covers all aspects of implementing and managing an adult ESOL class or program. The toolkit is part of MCAEL’s ongoing mission to support quality learner-oriented instruction.

Alex Galen, the main author of the Toolkit says “Books have been written that provide support to ESOL administrators in college intensive English academic preparation programs and in K-12 ESOL programs, but there hasn't been anything available to those who lead and manage community-based Adult ESOL programs.  This toolkit was designed to fill that gap.” Galen is currently the ESOL and Literacy Program Coordinator at Montgomery College.

About the Toolkit
This toolkit draws on the expertise of MCAEL staff, partners and practitioners in the field to provide a practical guidebook for community-based adult ESOL programs. The Toolkit is a comprehensive reference on all aspects of managing community-based adult ESOL classes, including determining the location and timing of classes, recruiting and retaining both learners and instructors, selection of teaching materials, assessment for learner placement as well as learner gains, transition services, data management and volunteer management. Presented in a Q&A format, each of the 22 chapters includes guidance, suggested resources, and practical examples.
