MCAEL Announces $1,285,000 in Grant Awards for FY21

22 Organizations Receive Funds to Support Adult English Literacy in Montgomery County

ROCKVILLE, MD – June 25, 2020 – The Montgomery Coalition for Adult English Literacy (MCAEL), announces the award of $1,285,000 in grants to support adult English literacy programs across Montgomery County. This represents a $25,000 increase over FY20 grant funding. While this is a modest increase; it underscores MCAEL’s commitment to serve underrepresented populations through the coalition network. Funding for the grants is provided in partnership with the Montgomery County Government, with the support of County Executive Elrich and the Montgomery County Council. 

A total of 22 organizations will receive grant support from MCAEL, for 30 adult English literacy programs. Recommendations for funding were made by a 14-member volunteer Grant Review Panel, composed of community members. FY21 grant recipients are, in alphabetical order:

The objective of MCAEL’s grants program is to increase the availability of adult English literacy services offered to diverse populations, and to improve the quality of those services in the county. MCAEL strengthens the community by advancing a coalition of organizations dedicated to enabling all Montgomery County residents to achieve their full potential by improving their English language skills.
